Terai, Tigers & Everest
Nepal, the world's only Hindu Kingdom, is Sandwiched between Tibet in the north, & India in the West, South and East. The country is rectangular in shape, with a boundary about 800 kms long & 180 to 220 Kms wide. An aerial view of the Country is like a green & white carpet rolled out for inspection. Altitudes vary from 60 to 200M in the Gangetic plains in the south and rise up to meet Mount Everest in the north, standing at 8848 Meters. Due to this variation in altitude there is a corresponding change in climate, density of population & vegetation. It is our endeavor to introduce to you this varied terrain & take you around the four main sections of this Himalayan Kingdom in the following program. Terrai Region - The area closest to the Indian border is called Terrai, a very fertile area which is also home to tigers and rhinos. This region appears as a flat narrow piece of land, 88 kms long & 20 to 40 kms wide with altitude ranging from 70 to 200m. Shivalik Region - Beyond Shivalik, on the northern axis, lie modest hills whose heights rarely exceeds 1500m. Mahabharat Region - Valley is the right word , hills as high as 3000m ,heavily populated, most fertile, also constitute also constitute the foothills of the himalayas -4000m but dips to 3000m in the valley itself.
